Australia-China Hospital Programs

Australia-China Hospital Improvement Programs are a collaboration between Australia China Health Accelerator (ACHA) and its Australian partners including: Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS), Australasian College of Health Service Management (ACHSM) and top Australian clinical experts.  We aim to improve China’s capacity of hospital management and quality of healthcare service delivery by bring in the most advance Australian expertise and experience to China. 

Program Objectives

  • Support China to develop standards of hospital management, accreditation frameworks and management systems which are suitable to China’s current situation;

  • Build up effective training system for hospital leaders and senior clinical workforce in China, increase China’s capacity of hospital management and quality of healthcare service delivery. 

  • Enhance relationship development, dialogue, exchange and idea sharing to accelerate clinical research and co-publication between Chinese and Australian clinical experts.  

What We Do

  • Facilitate network establishment between Australian and Chinese experts, transfer Australian expertise and experience in hospital leadership development, quality & safety improvement and clinical capacity building;

  • Organise Australian experts provide short and long-term training for Chinese hospital managers and clinical experts to increase their capacity of hospital management and clinical capabilities;

  • Provide Chinese Hospital Managers with pathways to receive internationally recognition;

  • Support Chinese hospitals to achieve the Australian standards of hospital accreditation. 

Our Partners

Australian Council of Health Standards (ACHS) is an independent not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving quality in health care. It is Australia’s leading health care assessment and accreditation provider, and over 1450 healthcare organisations are members of ACHS. It also achieved the requirements and accreditation of the International Society for Quality in Health Care. ACHS provides continuous healthcare improvement services (EQuIPNational), quality accreditation for different types of healthcare providers, quality accreditation for international healthcare providers, training courses and consultation services. ACHS also has quickly developed a strong market identity internationally and built valuable relationships with organisations across New Zealand, Hong Kong, India, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Bahrain and United Arab Emirates and has an increasing membership base in Asia including China.

Australasian College of Health Service Management (ACHSM) is the peak professional body for health managers in Australasia and brings together health leaders to learn, network and share ideas. As an incorporated not-for-profit organisation with 2500 members, ACHSM plays an integral role in creating, developing and supporting the leaders and managers of the health system with a view to create better health for all. ACHSM also leads the response to the international call to action and modified its programs and frameworks to reflect local, national and regional priorities in relation to healthcare management.


June 30, 2018

In the late June 2018, National Institute of Hospital Administration(NIHA), which is affiliated to China Commission of Health, hosted the International Forum for Hospital Evaluation and Quality Improvement in Wuhan, China. Australia China Health Accelerator (ACHA), as the international partner of this event, brought its strategic partner the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) to the conference and spoke a load Australian voice to introduce and promote Australian health system and hospital accreditation.

April 26, 2018

In April 2018, ACHA organised and completed a productive visit to China, specifically focusing on hospital management.  The delegation took multiple hospital tours and face-to-face meetings with hospitals and universities on medical education in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Beijing.

With endorsement and supervision from Bureau of Medical Administration, National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China, the First China-Australia Hospital Accreditation and Medical Quality Seminar was held in Beijing on 28 April 2018, co-organised by National Institute of Hospital Administration (NIHA) in China and Australia China Health Accelerator (ACHA).
